Belmont County tax delinquent list
The Belmont County Auditor publishes the delinquent tax list twice in a newspaper (or once in a newspaper and once on a county website) within 60 days of handing it to the Treasurer, as Ohio law (ORC 5721.03) requires, and links a current Delinquent List from its website. As of October 22, 2026 the Auditor's file shows 2,648 active parcels behind on property taxes, owing $21,036,998 in all, and 261 parcels in county tax foreclosure.
Numbers as of October 22, 2026, from the county records loaded that day (Recorder documents through October 21, 2026). Office details checked on the offices' own sites on October 22, 2026.
When and where is the delinquent list published?
Under Ohio Revised Code 5721.03 the county auditor compiles the delinquent tax list and publishes it twice within sixty days after the delinquent land duplicate goes to the treasurer: the first time in a newspaper of general circulation in the county, the second time in a newspaper or on a website the county maintains or approves (a website list comes down two weeks after it is published). The list must say the land will be certified for foreclosure unless the taxes and charges are paid.
Between publications, the current list is on the Auditor's Delinquent List page, also linked from the Treasurer's site.

What happens if the taxes are not paid?
- The Auditor certifies the parcel delinquent and it goes on the published list.
- The county prosecutor files a foreclosure in the Treasurer's name (ORC 5721.18). One kind of case, a foreclosure against the land itself, can be filed after the end of the second year from the date the delinquency was first certified. Ohio law has other routes too.
- If the case ends in a sale, the Sheriff sells it at the Sheriff's Office, 68137 Hammond Road, St. Clairsville. The Treasurer's page says bidding starts at the delinquent taxes plus court, title and Sheriff's fees, 10% of the winning bid is due on the sale day and the rest within 30 days.
Many owners pay before a sale. The Treasurer's monthly payment plan (TIPP) is only for accounts that are current, so an owner who is already behind should call the Treasurer.
