About Paper Trail Ohio

Paper Trail Ohio puts county Auditor and Recorder records in one search: owners, values, taxes and sales from the Auditor, and deeds, mortgages, liens and leases from the Recorder where the county publishes them. Every record comes from the county offices.

Where the data comes from

The records come from each county's Auditor and Recorder offices. We also publish an open dataset, free under CC BY 4.0, with one row per Ohio county: the software each county Recorder and Auditor uses for its public search, and how much of that county's records this site holds. It has counts and shares only, with no names or addresses: Ohio county property-record facts, by county (October 2026), DOI 10.5281/zenodo.23647878.
