Privacy policy
Last updated October 22, 2026.
Paper Trail Ohio is a trade name of Willow Creek Group LLC, St. Clairsville, Ohio ("we"). This page covers two things: the information we collect about people who use this website, and the public records we publish about property owners. Questions go to [email protected].
1. If you use the site
Without an account. We don't ask who you are. To count the 3 free property records a day, we keep a one-way scrambled code made from your internet address (we cannot turn it back into the address) with a daily count; these counts are deleted after about a week. Your browser also keeps a random ID and the tag or website that sent you here (for example a code printed on one of our reports), so we can count how many people each source brings and what they do: a visit, a search, a property opened, the free limit reached, a plan button pressed. That record holds no name, no email and no internet address.
With an account. We keep your email address, how you signed in (an email link or Google), your plan, and what you save or follow: properties, names, searches, documents, your notes and tags, and your alert choices. If you are on a Team plan and tick "Share with my team", your teammates see that item, its note and your email address.
When you pay. Stripe takes your card. We never see or store the card number. We keep your plan, its dates, your Stripe customer number and your receipts and invoices.
Emails. We send sign-in links, receipts, membership notices and the alerts you turn on, through our email service (Resend). We send other emails, such as tips or offers, only to people who signed up or bought, and every one has an unsubscribe link that works in one click.
What we don't do. We do not sell or rent information about the people who use this site. There are no advertising trackers or advertising cookies on it. We don't use your searches to build a profile of you.
2. Who else handles it
- Supabase (database and sign-in) and Cloudflare (the website and its delivery), both in the United States.
- Stripe for payments, and Resend for email.
- Google, only if you choose "Continue with Google".
- Public agencies and map services. Maps and hazard checks load straight from ODNR, FEMA, Ohio DOT, the EPA, the U.S. Geological Survey, OpenFreeMap and the county Recorder, so those services see your internet address the way any website you visit does.
- Your town, for the weather bar. Cloudflare, which hosts this site, tells the page the town your internet connection is in, so the bar at the top can show your local time and weather. We don't store it. If you tap "Use my exact location", your browser asks first, and the spot (rounded to about a mile) is kept only in your browser. Open-Meteo supplies the weather for that place and sees your internet address like any website.
We share information with others only to run the site, when the law requires it (for example a court order), or with your say-so.
3. Public records we publish
We publish public records from the Belmont County Recorder, Auditor and GIS office: owner names, mailing addresses, property values, taxes, sales and recorded documents. We also sell mailing lists and property data built from those same records. They never include phone numbers or email addresses, and we don't add them from other sources. Our files may not be used to screen anyone for housing, a job, credit or insurance.
- Remove or hide your information. Anyone can ask us to leave them off mailing lists, hide their name, or remove their home for their safety, at Remove or hide your information · Contact us: [email protected] or by email to privacy@. Safety requests are done within 72 hours, and we never ask for proof.
- Judges and protected people. Federal judges and their families (the Daniel Anderl Act), people covered by New Jersey's Daniel's Law, and people in Ohio's Safe at Home address program are handled as safety requests.
- Owners the Auditor protects by law are left out of everything we publish and sell.
- Vermont and Connecticut residents are left out of the mailing lists and data files we sell.
- A request to stop mailing goes on a list every file we make is checked against, for good.
The county keeps its own records public by law; asking us does not change the county's records.
4. How long we keep it
Account information stays while you have an account. Delete your account by emailing privacy@ and we remove it within 30 days, except what the law makes us keep, such as payment and tax records (about 7 years). The scrambled daily counts are deleted after about a week. Source and activity records are kept for up to 2 years and then deleted.
5. Your choices
- See, correct, download or delete your account information: email [email protected].
- Turn alerts and emails on or off under Account, or with the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Clear the random ID by clearing this site's data in your browser.
6. Children
The site is not meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.
7. Changes
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes. If a change matters to account holders, we email them before it takes effect.
